Running shoes are a very personal topic. I believe finding your “it” pair of shoes is a right of passage for all endurance athletes. I personally have tried more than my fair share! Everything from those bulky, overly supportive shoes they sell you for pronation, to the barefoot toe shoes, aka vibram five fingers, and a lot of shoes in between, I have tired them all. One of the reasons I change shoes so often is I have never really found a shoe that I felt was made for me. I wore a lot of shoes that I liked just fine. They covered my feet and got me to the finish line without an injury. And I really thought that was all there was to it. That is until I tried the Brooks Pure Flow, which is the first pair of shoes I loved at first fit. Sorry Saucony Kinvara, but I have found a new favorite! I guess Brooks isn’t joking around when they say “Because we only do running, we do it better than anyone else.” Let’s dive into the review:
Weighing in at only 7oz these shoes felt like heaven on my feet. My first run in these shoes felt like I was running on a cloud. and after wearing them through a half marathon and a sprint triathlon along with all the training runs in between I can honestly say I have never had a more comfortable pair of shoes.
While I don’t run in my vibrems anymore I still like a shoe with a minimal feel. I like to think my foot was designed pretty darn well and I want a shoe that works with my biomechanics, not against it. With only a 4mm drop those shoes fit the bill perfectly.
From half marathons to triathlons this shoe does not disappoint, while this is not a tri specific shoe there is no reason not to race in the Brooks Pure Flow. The soft lining and flat seems insides this shoe feel great even when worn sock less and it’s light weight makes it great for long distances. The only adjustment you may consider if you are wearing these shoes for triathlon is purchase quick laces, but I will leave that up to personal preference, I didn’t feel these shoes slowed me down in transition one bit.
We all know that we shouldn’t pick a shoe by it’s looks but let’s be honest, we all want to rock some awesome looking kicks! One of the things I love about Brooks as a company is their attention to detail. These shoes while simple and sleek still look awesome! I personally went with the bright pink and navy and I love the little neon green accents.
When I first started running in these shoes I had some soreness in my caves. Nothing too bad but I definitely think these shoes may have changed my gait a little, and based on wear I was sore I would say for the better. One of my training partners who wears the Brooks PureFlow as well and complained about the laces feeling “like ribbon” while I personally like the feel of these laces, which are flat and textured, you may want to change them out if they bother you like my running partner did!
I have always been a fan of Brooks running gear and my first experience with their shoes did not disappoint. I hope that Brooks keeps making the PureFlow for years to come, because I am sold!
