I never though of myself as the skirt sport wearing kind of girl. Sure I wore a skort on high school drill team, I also wore a singlet on the high school wrestling team, that doesn’t mean I am planing on running a half marathon in it! But after I had baby #2 I definitely needed to switch things up, and the Vixen skirt from Skirtsports.com was too cute not to give it a try. My first ever running skirt came in the mail in record time, I was shocked at how quickly it came. Just in time for the BMO Vancouver Half Marathon. I usually don’t use gear I haven’t had proper time to test, but with one short training run I was sold. I decided this was the skirt I was going to wear for my next half marathon. When I ran that first half marathon after having baby #2 I was still carrying an extra 15 pounds of baby weight, I didn’t feel particularly cute, and all of my regular race clothing made me look like a stuffed sausage. I was beyond thrilled to find something that fit well and actually made me feel good about myself for my first race back after baby. One of the things I LOVE about this skirt is all the well thought out little details. While the designs are simple the ladies over at Skirtsports.com have thought of everything!
This may seem like a no brainer, but there is so much athletic gear out there that does nothing for the female form. I love the length of this skirt and the asymmetrical design with the ruffled edge, it is just a little flirty, even if you are still working off the baby weight.
The Skirt Sport skirts have built in shorts underneath their skirts with wide pockets. This is one of the big reasons I ended up wearing this skirt for almost every run this summer. The oversized pockets fit my phone perfectly, yet they are snug enough to keep my phone from bouncing around or getting lost. There is a pocket on each side so you have plenty of space for an MP3 player, gu, car keys etc.
Another great feature is the head phone port through the skirt. It makes using those big pockets for your MP3 player or cell phone flawlessly easy.
This is a big one when it comes to my workout attire. I am a triathlete and a personal trainer so I really put my clothing to the test. The vixen skirt is a slightly heavier material than some of the other skirt sport skirts I own. This makes it perfect for early and late season races. The material has held up through the months of constant wear and definitely shows quality craftsmanship
The Down Side
I have only had one issue with the Skirt Sport Vixen skirt, on hot days I have had some chaffing along the lining of the shorts. This hasn’t been an issue on cool days, and was not an issue during my half marathon. I have found a little bit of Vaseline applied before a hot summer run solves this issue nicely.
I want to hear from you: Do you rock a skirt or shorts on your run? What running outfit makes you feel awesome in your own skin?
