SPSFC4 Book Reviews

What is SPSFC you may be asking? The Self Published Science Fiction Competition is a year long competition between self published science fiction authors. The competition is in it’s fourth year with 188 submitted novels. You can find all of the books entered here.

Competition’s like these are a great way for self published authors to get their books in front of new readers. I have submitted my debut novel, Umbra, and hope that it get’s in front of some people who may never have heard of my space opera adventure story otherwise.

Because exposure is so important for new indie authors I wanted to do my part in helping my fellow scifi authors find new readers as well. I have decided I am going to read at least one book a month from the SPSFC4 line up. If you would like to read along and find a new favorite scifi book you can grab the bingo card below and play along with me!

I am kick off these posts with the entries that I have already read.

Umbra by Amber Toro

If you are looking for a space opera with complex characters, political intrigue, sentient starships, and a side of slow burn romance you can check out my entry to the competition here and it is available to read for free on KU.

The Forsaken Planet by Bryan Wilson

This science fantasy seamlessly blends galactic empire scifi with star powered magic. Perfect for fans of Star Wars and Enders Game. You can check out Jonathan Putnam’s SFF Insiders Review of The Forsaken Planet here.

I will be updating this page with SPSFC4 reads as I make my way through my tbr. The books I am selecting are entirely based on my own genre preferences and my mood. This is by no means a negative reflection of book’s I don’t have a chance to get to during the competition and I highly recommend everyone check out the full list of books as well as follow along with the competition on X through the #SPSFC4 hashtag for more recs and reviews.
